This is a scanned copy of the original paper written by Mr. Ray Holt in 1971. This paper was submitted and accepted for publication by Computer Design magazine in 1971, however, because of security reasons the U.S. Navy and his employer, Garrett AiResearch, would not approved the release of the information. It was finally released on April 21, 1998 by authority of the US Navy.

This paper was first written in early 1998 to be a resource for the reader and reviewer of the "Architecture Of A Microprocessor" paper as to the state-of-the-art in computer architecture and LSI technology in 1968. This paper will be updated as further information is uncovered. The majority of this paper was written from resource material Mr. Ray Holt saved from the F14 microprocessor project.
